This is Not a Book Comes Out September 1!
wreckthisAttention all Keri Smith fans, lovers of ripping pages up like cheap toilet paper, and backyard and/or urban adventurers—her new book arrives in less than two months!
This is Not a Book looks like a fun mixture between Wreck This Journal and How to Be an Explorer of the World to me, but nobody really knows for sure. From Keri’s sneak peak at her site, we know it’s got more “assignments” to bring out the creativity in anyone, from a professional graphic designer to a slug. Be sure to click on the book itself for more bits from the book!
If you are an artist who has yet to experience the wild wacky world of Keri Smith, this is your chance; but there are plenty other ways to get to know Kerri.
Her blog, the wish jar, is one of the most fun places on the web. You can learn to make a wallet out of comic strips, make a portable tree, and go on amazing everyday adventures there. There’s stuff to cut out, stuff to fold, and stuff to think about, too. (I totally have a comic strip wallet in my purse right now; there’s nothing in it at the moment, but on it are strips from Get Fuzzy and For Better or For Worse.)
Most people’s favorite book of hers, it seems, is Wreck This Journal, and it is undoubtedly one of the most fun books you’ll ever come across. Rather than reading it, you completely screw it up—spilling drinks on it, dragging it in the street, and breaking its spine are all instructions.
I absolutely had to get both my sister and myself our own copies—which is a rarity since we tend to pass books back and forth. My daughter loves to ask to see the page that tells you to draw disgusting things, where—in my copy—you’ll find boogers, dead bugs, and poop, all drawn in crayon and in very loving detail. This book even has its own cult following on Flickr; I’m telling you, Keri is amazing!
She’s got plenty of other fun books available too, including a bunch of great activity books for girls. My favorite so far has been Living Out Loud, which I tore into immediately upon buying it and still enjoy taking it out and playing with it every day.
Are you getting Keri’s new book? I’ve got it penned in my planner, which means it’s already mine. Theoretically.
